This was loaned to us by a friend who enthused about what a quality film it was.Well, i will agree that it is quite clearly a very well-constructed and -executed piece of cinema.

Still hated it.  I have rarely seen a film where i found the premise of the story to be so thoroughly reprehensible.  It was so offensive that i’m just not sure what to think about it.  In 1888, did Rudyard Kipling expect us to sympathize with these men in any way?  In 1975, did John Huston expect us to sympathize with these men?

I typically try not to know much about a movie before i watch it because i tend to overthink things in advance otherwise.  In this case, however, i wish i’d have known the basic premise beforehand because i would not have wasted my precious 129 minutes on it.  Be ye warned — read the plot summaries of the story/movie at the Wikipedia links above before choosing to waste your own time likewise.
